The Belgian tradition of brewing and pouring craft beers is alive and well at The Sovereign. The DC restaurant strives to emulate Belgian pubs with its selection of artisan brews and upscale cuisine. Swing by for happy hour (5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) to enjoy a pint and a bite. Try the De La Senne blonde ale from Brussels or the De Ranke blonde ale from Hainaut, Belgium. They're both just $4 during happy hour, as are snacks like fries topped with short rib and gruyere.
Brunch is another popular time to head to The Sovereign. Nibble on some Belgian meatballs, gruyere croquettes, or a roasted beet and ricotta cheese tartine while you ponder your entree choice. Options range from the Liege waffle, a surprisingly savory creation topped with sauerkraut, bratwurst, bacon lardons, a poached egg, and mustard beer cream to a Belgian waffle loaded with strawberries and creme chantilly.
