Sloppy Mama’s Brings Hickory-Fired Barbecue to Arlington

The opening of Sloppy Mama’s in Arlington has been a long time coming. After years of serving delicious smoked meats from a food truck, and later at pop-up spots in local food halls and festivals, Joe and Mandy Neuman chose to put down roots in a charming roadside location on Lee Highway that once housed a chain pizza restaurant. The retro style of the building is complimented by the couple’s timeless approach to preparing barbecue–real hickory-fired grills, low-and-slow cooking, and close and careful attention from the grill master.

With seating for 54 and over 2500 square feet of space, Sloppy Mama’s can handle a much higher volume than it could in its food hall locations, meaning quicker service and greater variety. Smoked brisket, barbecued ribs, pulled pork, and smoked chicken are all standard offerings, served with a range of mustard- and vinegar based barbecue sauces. Just make sure you don’t show up too late—this place often sells out during peak times.
